I am a 32-year-old working woman. I live a healthy life, and I am perfectly fit for my age.

But it was not long ago when the moment I stepped out of my house, my face used to resemble something of a tomato in its ripest stage.

If you have been through this, then you are definitely no stranger to the kind of depression that I used to go through because of this problem.

People often laugh it off as trivial but only the ones that suffer because of this can relate to the embarrassment caused due to it.

However, it is not impossible to get rid of blemishes and redness on cheeks.

Nonetheless, before we discuss further on how to get rid of redness on cheeks, we should first briefly understand the various causes that lead to this condition.

Redness On Face And Its Causes

Redness of cheeks is often thought to be as a result of deep or overwhelming emotion which we, in our day to day lives, call blushing.

However, emotions are not the only culprit behind skin flushing or redness on cheeks.

One of the other common causes is exposure to relatively high-intensity sunlight or UV rays.

It can also be related to medical conditions like rosacea or menopause.

Drinking alcohol, eating spicy food or intake of high cholesterol medications might also lead to such problems.

The first step of getting rid of redness on cheeks is to identify the source of the problem and try to get rid of it.

However, it is often not possible to get rid of it entirely.

For example, you cannot avoid going out into the sun if you want to continue with your daily normal life, isn’t it?

Therefore, we require some sort of a solution.

Redness on cheeks – Remedies

There are a lot of home remedies and herbal treatments in order to get rid of red marks, blemishes, and redness on cheeks.

I, however, will personally endorse only those remedies that I have found useful and do not have any side effects on your skin or health.

  • Use that face mask:

If your problem is not extremely severe and it’s just an irritation that you want to get rid of without many hassles, then you should opt for face masks.

The requirements for this are very minimal and you only need a cup of ground oats and some water to do the trick.

Take the oats and mix it with water to make a fine paste and then apply this paste all over your neck and face.

Be sure to cover every area of skin. After completely covering the skin with this paste, leave the mask to dry for 15-20 minutes approximately.

After about 20 minutes, take of the mask by splashing your face with cool water.

Repeat this process every three or four times a week and you will find a difference in a very short period of time.

Oatmeal soothes the skin and has the properties that can negate any sort of irritation of your face and neck.

I have found this method to be very simple but effective in the long run.

  • Detoxify with Green Tea:

Green tea is known to have enormous herbal values and is used in various other processes like body detoxification.

It is also a very effective remedy for redness of cheeks.

All you need is 2 bags of green tea and two cups of hot water.

Mix the green tea into the hot water by dipping it in a couple of times. After this, chill the solution in the freezer.

When it’s chilled, take it out and apply it by dipping a clean cloth into the solution and placing it on your face.

Keep the cloth on your face for around 15 minutes and it will do the trick.

Repeat this process every night until all of the redness is gone.

  • Cool it off with Cucumber paste:

This is also a very effective and natural way to help redness of cheeks or blemishes.

We all know the phrase “Cool as a cucumber”. Well, it was said for a reason.

It soothes your skin with its cooling properties and will rejuvenate your skin.

Blend the cucumber into a thick paste and then apply it on your face and skin. Leaving it on for around 15-20 minutes is sufficient.

You may then rinse it off with cold water.

  • Soothe with Coconut oil:

It is very commonly known that coconut oil is used to treat dry, irritated skin.

It can also help you get rid of redness in cheeks. Before going to bed every night, apply coconut oil on your face and neck and massage it gently.

Do not try to wash it away.

Instead, keep it on for the entire night and it will bring wonderful results after a few days of patience.

This is probably the simplest and effective solution that I have encountered.

But results will not appear overnight and you need to wait for some time.

  • The “Ice” treatment:

You can also apply a cold compress to your face every night by using a clean towel and ice wrapped in it.

This also soothes your skin and moistens it.

However, make sure you do not do it for a long period of time; otherwise, you might catch a cold.

  • Moisturize with Petroleum Jelly:

Petroleum jelly is very commonly available in the market. Buy a can of petroleum jelly and apply it on your face.

It has moisturizing properties that will soothe your skin and reduce any sort of irritation.

Dryness of skin is also reduced!

  • Make it up with Makeup:

Might sound a bit obvious, but when you are really embarrassed about your condition you can resort to a temporary solution like concealing makeup.

If the only problem that you have with the redness of your skin is its appearance, then you can use a green corrective concealing makeup kit.

It comes with a sponge or bush that will help you to apply it on the affected areas of your face and neck.

Make sure that you blend the concealer onto your skin, especially on the red areas, and use some sort of translucent powder to keep it in place throughout the day.

Concealers also come in skin toned color. You may substitute it for the green colored powder if it sets badly on your skin tone.

I should remind you, however, that this solution is only temporary and best use it when it is required and not rely on its use.

This will definitely not address the root of the problem but is very effective when you want a short-term quick fix.


All of the remedies are quite effective but only the long-term remedies are what I would truly recommend.

I know that it can be difficult and the temptation is always there to apply some sort of short-term remedy to make up for the appearance.

However, long-term remedies will permanently get rid of your problem naturally and will have zero side effects and they will also enable you to lead a normal life without depending on anything sort of makeup.
